June 2014

Greetings from the President

Hello quilters,
We had a good meeting in March and were pleased to also sign up a brand new guild, Fly Way Quilters of Savannah, NY.  I would like to send a special 'Thank You' to all who helped the board with the planning and running of the meeting.

Spring seems to have arrive but with a vengeance in some parts of our state. I hope all of you were spared destruction from the heavy rains. Now we can start those gardens and watch the flowers grow.

Our guilds quilt shows have begun and what wonderful work all of you do. It is marvelous to see all the beautiful creations.  Lake to Lake Quilt Guild was the first guild to hang some of the Consortium Challenge winners. Congratulations to all who won.  We will have a special trunk show of all the Challenge winner quilts at the QCNYS Summer meeting in Horseheads, NY. We look forward to seeing you there.

Respectfully submitted: Pamela Langdon

Threadbears Quilters Guild

Excerpt from the April 5, 2014 Oneida Dispatch:
Honor flight, quilts say thank you to local veterans
Upon their return to Syracuse, the veterans were to receive individualized hand-made quilts courtesy of local quilting group, the    Threadbears Quilters Guild. Members of the Guild decided at a meeting in the fall to support the veterans by making a quilt for each participant as a rememberance of their trip. "We feel that it's the least we can do to support these wonderful individuals. It's a win-win: we get to do something we love to do and show our appreciation at the same time," said Lorraine Howerton, a guild member.
The quilts will be handed out at the airport.  The Guild made 85 quilts but only needed 65. Work on the quilts started last year, and for Howerton, it takes her about 20 to 25 hours to make each quilt.  "I am very proud of all the ladies for coming through" on this project, Howerton said.
